Do you know a workout really can affect your skin in a bad way if you don't have the right routine? (Also read: How Workout Effect Skin). This entry will give you the full guide on how to take care of your skin before and after the workout to prevent any breakout.

BEFORE WORKOUT

Light moisturizer
Please bear in mind that workouts involve very heavy sweat. A thick moisturizer will make your skin too oily and sticky which may cause bacteria development and acne. Choosing the right moisturizer such as a gel-type moisturizer which enough to give you the hydration that your skin needs. My recommended moisturizer is Hydro Boost Water Gel by Neutrogena.

Use sunscreen if you are outside
Workout outside is the best as you can enjoy the view and fresh air without feeling stuffy. However, UV light can kill all the good things in your skin. Be sure to apply and reapply your sunscreen. Even if you are working out in the evening you still need a sunscreen as the sun still gives your skin UV light. Choose a lightweight sunscreen such as powder for extra comfort.

AFTER WORKOUT

Immediately wash your face
No chatting or hanging out if you don't do this! Right after your cooling session be sure to wash your face. Your sweat contains trapped dirt, bacteria, and maybe some toxin which perfect combo that causes acne. Be sure immediately after the workout, clean your face either with plain water or a gentle cleanser.

Use a plain wipe if you can't wash your face
Always carry a baby wipe with you if there is no water available at your gym or your workout area. A baby wipe is the best option compared to makeup wipes or any other wet wipes as baby wipes are gentle to the skin and free of harsh chemicals. But be sure to immediately wash your face when you reach home.

Follow up with your skincare routine
Do not skip your skincare routine even if you are too tired after your workout session. A skincare routine is basic hygiene to prevent acne or breakout. A basic skincare routine consists of three main things which are cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Do not forget to use a spot treatment to treat existing acne. EXTRA TIPS

Change your workout gear after every use
Using the same towel or cloth can be the main reason for your acne. Even if you did not sweat heavily during your workout you still need to change them because your cloth traps the unseen sweat and bacteria and can be transferred to your skin which leads to a breakout.

Drink a lot of water
Workout can remove a lot of water content in your body and cause dehydration. Dehydration can be the reason for dehydrated skin which can produce excess oil on your skin and lead to clogged pores. So be sure you drink a lot of water. 3L of water is the best for people who workout actively.

Soreness is an absolutely normal process as our muscles go through pressure during our workout sessions.  The pain will reduce after 48 hours. However,  there are some hacks that you can try to prevent or reduce muscle soreness in a blink of an eye.

Stretching and Cool Down
Make sure to do your stretching before the workout and cool down after the workout. As when we exercise, we put a lot of stress on the muscle and cause it to tear and inflame. Stretching and cool-down can help to relax and loosen your muscle. Stressing the tight and stiff muscles may cause further injury and a lot of pain.

Ice bath
As mentioned earlier, workouts put a lot of stress on the muscle and cause inflammation. An ice bath can reduce the burning of muscle and reduce inflammation that causes soreness.  You may feel sharp stabbing your skin during the ice bath but after a while, your body will get used and you will feel very fresh after.

Hot cream or muscle cream
Most muscle creams such Flanil and Counter Pain contain pain relievers such as methyl salicylate. Besides, they contain menthol that gives your skin a cool at the same time warm sensation. This will distract your mind from focusing on the pain that you feel.

Massager
Massaging the inflamed muscle may cause further injury. However, using massaging tools such as Massage Gun will help to relax and loosen your muscle which can reduce the soreness. You also can use it to reduce muscle spasms.

Pain killer
This is my personal last option. Muscle soreness can be a bit extreme if I doing intense training. If any of the above doesn't work for me after quite some time, I will take a pain killer. Before you taking please be sure to consult with your doctor!

The Night-time skincare routine can be a little bit different from the morning skincare routine. Here is my current night skincare routine which I found really suits my skin well.

Micellar water/cleansing oil
I always do the double cleansing even though I'm not a big fan of makeup. Just to make sure my oil gland only has the optimum amount of oil and all my waterproof sunscreen been removed from my skin right before I went to bed. My favorite is Hada Labo cleansing oil. However, if my cleansing oil is out of stock, I will replace it with micellar water from Garnier. But please bear in mind that micellar water doesn't have the same effect as a cleansing oil.

Gentle cleanser
My all-time favorite Cetaphil gentle cleanser. Remove all the dirt without stripping my natural oil. Doesn't leave my skin tight or dry. Very gentle and suits my skin very well.

Toner (optional)
Toner is an optional step but I love to use it to soothe and hydrate my skin. Also, this toner from simple contain niacinamide which can brighten the dark spots. I use it to soothe my skin as I want to include spot treatment in my routine and it really does a great job.

Moisturizer
If you follow me since 2019, you guys will know how much I love this moisturizer. It's really worth the hype. This moisturizer gives me enough hydration I need for my skin without leaving anything or sticky feelings. (Also read: Honest Review: Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel)

Spot treatment
As I'm in my 20's I choose retinol as my spot treatment. I use this both depending on my mood. But I love both. These two really help to reduce my breakout and slow down my aging process. (Also read: How to Look Younger). Retinoid is not available on the rack, whether you need to ask the pharmacist or get a prescription from your dermatologist to purchase.

Besides of went for a dentist visit every 6 months, you also need proper care of your oral hygiene to ensure you are in good oral condition. Good oral hygiene may prevent a lot of oral issues such as bad breath, cavities, and inflamed gums. Preventing is always better than treating. Learn how on this entry. Here are the 5 tips on how to get the perfect smile and fresh breath.

Brush your teeth twice daily
Brushing teeth is the most crucial part of oral hygiene as it can prevent gum disease. Brushing your teeth will remove plaque which may cause most gum diseases such as cavities and tartar. Make sure you brush your teeth in the correct way as shown in the picture. (Picture credit to google) Wrongly brushing your teeth may cause gum bleeding and will not remove all the plaque or food junk. This will lead to the occurrence of bacteria. Choose a small and soft bristle toothbrush for a better brushing experience.

Flossing before bed
Most people have small teeth gaps that can store small pieces of food. Sometimes brushing alone never be enough to remove plaque between your teeth. That is when flossing comes in handy. Flossing can clean each one of your teeth thoroughly. You may choose any of your favorite dental flosses such as water spray, waxed and unwaxed string, dental tape, and static thread. My favorite is always dental tape and static thread as my personal recommendation for cleaner teeth.

Use a mouth rinse after brushing
Bacteria in the mouth not only sitting in your teeth. It can be anywhere such as your gums, cheeks, or under the tongue. To ensure you have the cleanest mouth and fresh breath, use a mouth rinse. Mouth rinse with fluoride can kill germs that cause bad breath besides preventing cavities.

Use treatment cream to treat ulcer
Do not depend on "drinking water" or "supplement consuming" alone to treat ulcers. The ulcer is caused by injury or skin rash that happens in our mouth. It might cause by accidentally biting or wearing braces. An ulcer can be a sign of bacteria and infection. So be sure to use treatment creams such as oral aid or bonjela to treat.

Do not forget your tongue
The colour of your tongue can determine your oral hygiene. White means you have very poor oral hygiene that cause bacteria build-up on your tongue. It is important to include your tongue in your oral hygiene routine.  Using the tongue scraper can remove harmful bacteria cause that may cause bad breath and other mouth diseases.
