Do you know skincare has certain steps that you really need to follow or else your skincare product will not absorb thoroughly and become less effective? Sometimes it can be confusing but if you make it a habit, things will get easier time by time. So which skincare product you should apply first or what are the rules of skincare layering? This entry will cover the most basic to the most advanced steps of your skincare.
The most basic step is always to start with a very light and watery product with a thick or oil-based product. This will help your skincare product to absorb better. For example, skincare products such as a moisturizer have a thicker texture compared to toners. So use your toner before applying your moisturizer.
Applying treatment skincare such as serum, essence, and ampoule can have a better penetration when applying to damp skin. In order that you need to be sure to have damp and hydrated skin before applying any treatment.
Follow these skincare steps for better understanding:
- Oil-based cleanser
- Water-based cleanser
- Hydrating toner
- Exfoliation toner
- Essence
- Serum
- Ampoule
- Spot treatment
- Moisturizer
- Facial oil
- Sunscreen
Feel free to skip any of the steps if there is no urge for you to use the product. The basic skincare product which you can't skip is the cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Further, please bear in mind, that exfoliation toner is not meant for daily use.
Another tip is always to let each layer of your skincare fully absorb before proceeding to the next steps and reapply your sunscreen every 2-3hours. Hope this entry helps. Thank you for reading.
Oily skin can be a bit annoying especially during hot weather when everything gets sweaty and shiny. You cannot change your skin type. However, the good news is sebum production can be controlled with proper technique and choices of skincare. This entry will show ingredients to look for and some of the skincare suggestions suitable for oily skin.
Ingredient to look for:
- Salicylic acid- clear pores

- Vitamin A/Retinol- Reduce sebum
Cetaphil oily skin cleanser is clinically proven to reduce sebum in 2 weeks. However, I still love to use Cetaphil gentle skin cleansers as other skincare products I use already enough to reduce my sebum without overdrying. But if you find your face too oily you may use this Cetaphil oily cleanser.
This exfoliator contain salicylic acid. Really suited for oily skin as this product can attract all the sebum and clear clogged pores.
Pixi glow tonic contains 5% glycolic acid which is categorized as a mild exfoliator and suitable for everyday use. However please do not use it together with any acne treatment or exfoliator as it may cause overdrying.
Yuja niacin blemish care serum got a high percentage of niacinamide and other star ingredient such glutathione, arbutin, yuja extract which is really effective to brighten skin and fading any pigmentation.

My Opinion:
This is my current favorite sunscreen as it does not give my skin any breakout or purging and it really does what it claims. I really see improvement on my skin in terms of fading my pigmentation or my dark spot. Even after I reapply it every 2-3 hours, it does not feel heavy or sticky. This sunscreen is always my go-to sunscreen as this is wudhu friendly (i don't need to use my makeup remover anymore to remove my sunscreen). However, it does give shiny look after I reapply my sunscreen quite sometimes. So my solution is to wash my face before I reapply.
